Chronic wounds in diabetes mellitus and occlusive arterial disease

Oxygen is essential in wound healing for process of collagen formation, epithelialisation of the wound and immune defense. Differences of oxygen supply in ischemic and neuropathic wounds and its effects on wound healing could be shown [1].
Local perfusion monitoring has the advantage of assessing healing potential of wounds and diagnose infections in early stages.
